What happens in a Memory Matters Workshop?
The workshops last for two and a half hours in a friendly and relaxed environment. Our group leaders will make sure that everyone is comfortable, nobody is ever put on the spot and that everyone is involved.
The Workshop is in two parts with a short comfort break half way through the morning where refreshments will be provided.
CST has been proven to help slow the progression of dementia for some people during clinical trials. It is recommended by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for everybody livng with a diagnosis of mild to moderate dementia.
The Sessions are light hearted and fun, they run with the same structure each time for familiarity. Starting with a look at the newspaper and a fun word activity to warm up our brains.
Each session has a different topic, eg. Famous Faces, Occupations, Current Affairs, childhood, creativity, food.
Live well sessions give an opportunity to explore how to live well with a diagnosis of dementia with the support of your peers. The topics include nutrition, memory prompts, legal matters, future planning, safety and other issues or questions that arise through discussion. Outside speakers often come to present to the groups.
Once you have completed the 15 weeks you will be offered a place on FREE maintenance sessions that are designed to keep up the thinking skills and to keep you connected with your peers. These run at least once a month.
